Potted Plant and Cut Flower Care 01/11/2011
Care tips for Hand-tied bouquets Just add water.... ....and a little pampering How do you feel when you arrive somewhere after a journey? Chances are your flowers feel much the same. Welcome them to their new environment by following these simple steps. 1. In the same way as you like to take off your coat and put down your bag, your flowers want to get rid of any excess baggage. Undress the bouquet from its decorative wrappings. 2. While relaxation is important, you need to keep your flowers on their toes. Lay the flowers on their side and cut about 1 inch off the stems, ensuring you make a 45-degree angle. 3. Drinks and snacks all-round! Empty the accompanying parcel of flower food into a clean, wide-necked vase and fill it with water. Not ice cold water, mind you. Water is the red wine of the flower world: best served at room temperature. 4. Lower the flowers into the vase and then settle your guests somewhere they’ll feel welcome – in a cool spot away from fruit, sources of heat, bright light and drafts, and somewhere you’ll enjoy their company and remember to take care of them. Play the perfect host by changing the water every few days. In warm or dry environments, you can also mist your flowers every morning. Care tips for Arrangements Just add water.... ....and a little pampering How do you feel when you arrive somewhere after a journey? Chances are your flowers feel much the same. Even though they’ve arrived in a limousine-like vase with plush seats of florist’s foam, they’d appreciate a down-to-earth welcome to their new environment by following these simple steps. 1. There’s nothing like a drink to make your flowers feel at home. Mix the accompanying parcel of flower food with fresh clean water. Gently pour the solution into the center or back of the arrangement, adding a little more after the first serving has been absorbed by the foam. 2. Carry on in this fashion until the foam can no longer absorb any more or your vase is filled to the brim. Tip off any excess water and dry the bottom of your vase or container. Reserve the rest of the solution for later. 3. Settle your guests somewhere they’ll feel welcome – away from fruit, sources of heat, bright light and drafts, and somewhere you’ll enjoy their company and remember to take care of them. Play the perfect host by topping off your arrangement with water daily. You can also mist your arrangement every morning. Care tips for European Gardens Just add green thumb… …and a little sunshine How do you feel when you arrive somewhere after a journey? Chances are your plants feel much the same. Even though they’ve arrived in a cozy little basket, they’d appreciate a down-to-earth welcome to their new environment by following these simple steps. 1. There’s nothing like a drink to make your garden feel at home. If the soil feels dry to the touch gently shower with some fresh, room-temperature water until the soil becomes moist like the forest floor. 2. Settle your guests somewhere they’ll feel welcome – somewhere near a sunny window where your garden can worship the sun, away from sources of heat and drafts, and somewhere you’ll enjoy their company and remember to take care of them. Play the perfect host by showering your garden every so often maintaining a level of soil moisture that makes your plants stretch their tendrils and limbs. You can also mist your garden every morning waking them with a blanket of dew. Comments05/10/2012 23:06
